FORT BEAUFORT HISTORICAL MUSEUM is a dynamic small-town museum situated in the heart of Eastern Cape Frontier country

Located in the Old Officer’s Mess building adjacent to the Town Square in Durban Street in the heart of town the museum is proud custodian of our local history. Our valuable collection includes a famous collection of Militaria and Guns , a cornucopia of items of ethnological and cultural importance , two original oil paintings by eminent artist Thomas Baines and a Victorian Blacksmith’s Shop

Ms Asavela Maqubela is the curator and principal of the museum and is passionate about revival of our heritage as she guides the museum in its transition to reflect our vision

To ensure the Fort Beaufort Historical Museum represents the history of all the peoples and the main events of the Fort Beaufort area.

Gcobisa , Hannes , Sipho and the Board of Trustees are all part of a supportive team who take pride in the rich and diverse history of our interesting town.  Together with Asavela they are involved in the everyday activities at the museum.
